The Eisteddfod

The Eisteddfod was developed in conjunction with writer Lally Katz.

It is the story of an agoraphobic brother and sister, Abalone and Gerture, who, due to the traumatic loss of their parents while teenagers, live their lives afraid of the world together in a tiny room. Here they role play their adult longings and anxieties. Abalone's one desire is to win the annual Eisteddfod (drama competition), while Gerture is spending increasing lengths of time in the imaginary world of her "class room". This year, for the first time, Gerture is joining Abalone in his quest. She will play Lady Macbeth to his Macbeth.

The Eisteddfod premiered in June 2004 at the Store Room, a 63-seat theatre in North Fitzroy , as part of the In Storage season.
